| The Oregon Humane Society is dedicated to using rescue organizations as an option for animal placement. Animals that meet Oregon Humane Society adoption criteria will remain in the shelter unless the animal begins to show signs of distress. Breed contacts can refer possible homes to the shelter for placement through the Humane Society. Animals that do not meet Oregon Humane Society criterion for placement because of health, temperament, or behavior history will be placed with Rescue groups willing to make arrangements in a timely manner. Should an animal show extreme aggression or have profound medical complications, the shelter may euthanize the animal without calling breed rescue. Fees for animals placed through the Oregon Humane Society will reflect the shelter's adoption fees. All animals are surgically altered before adoption. Usually this will be done before the actual placement at the expense of the adopter. Fees for animals not meeting OHS adoption criteria may be waived to rescue groups approved by and in good standing with the The shelter will document the calls to breed rescue groups and responses. Rescue groups in good standing will include those that respond in a timely manner, demonstrate responsible placement, and show a concern for the entire breed without excluding "poorly bred" or dogs with genetic conditions relating to the breed. |
